Meet Our Team
Viv launched RAM Cellars in 2014. She’s been making wine in the Pacific Northwest since 2012. She came into the light as herself and came out as a transgender woman in 2018. In 2019, she launched our VIV Label in an effort to raise funds for other queer and transgender folks through a $3 donation made per bottle sold. Viv loves making, sharing, and connecting over wine, as well as time with Aidan and their family pets. An avid fan of many creative pursuits, all things Star Trek, and time in the outdoors, if she’s not making wine or pouring or selling wine, you can find her singing Karaoke, playing music poorly on her guitar, watching Star Trek with Aidan, or playing any number of TTRPGs with friends!
Beatrice has been working with us here at RAM Cellars since February of 2023 and has become an integral part of our winemaking team. Beatrice grew up around a lot of biodynamic farming and permaculture and has been playing with all sorts of fermentation for her entire life. She also works on the wine team at Portland staple Ava Genes as a server and sommelier. And she cares deeply about what wine will look like throughout climate change.
Her favorite wines that we make here at RAM Cellars are our Tempranillo and Roussanne. And her favorite wines of the world (if she had to pick) are an aged melon de bourgogne from France, a Nebbiolo (she does work at an Italian restaurant, after all!), or a California Zinfandel. In general, she prefers aromatic, textural whites and ripe, savory reds. We’re so grateful for all of Beatrice’s hard work and are excited about her future as a natural winemaker!
Aidan joined team RAM Cellars in 2020. A shared love of wine connected Aidan and Viv in early 2020 and well, the rest is history. Aidan and Viv embarked on a lifetime of joy together and were married in November of 2020. Aidan handles communications, social media support, and administrative work year round for the winery and is a vibrant and creative part of our winemaking team every harvest. Aidan took the lead on our 2020 Rosé of Tempranillo and has been an integral part of all things RAM Cellars since joining our team in 2020. They love making wine with Viv, horror movies, fiber arts, time outside, Star Trek (thanks to Viv introducing them to it) and creative and nerdy pursuits of many kinds.
Kyra has also been working with us for a little over a year. After an invite to come help us with bottling in early 2023, Kyra has been a part of our production team ever since, helping out with bottling, all harvest operations, and our day-to-day cellar operations.
Originally from Arizona, Kyra is great at fixing things and creatively finding solutions to problems and is generally a delight to work with. She is also an avid Star Trek fan, leading to many lengthy chats about current or favorite Star Trek series, episodes, and actors over cellar work.
Kyra’s favorite wines we make here at RAM Cellars are our Rose of Tempranillo and our Orange Fraiche. As you can tell from her picks, she’s especially fond of the Orange and Rose wines me make.
In August of 2019, Rebecca ‘Bex’ Fry (she / they) joined team RAM Cellars as our assistant winemaker. The 2019 harvest was a collaboration between Viv and Bex that yielded some truly beautiful wines: our Viv label Pinot Noir Blanc and Pinot Noir Rosé. Rebecca then took the lead on our beautiful 2020 Le Belier Orange and was an instrumental part of increased production during our 2021 harvest. In early 2022, Bex moved on from team RAM Cellars to focus fully on her work as street outreach coordinator for a Portland area nonprofit whose work focuses on providing a pathway from houselessness to permanent housing through wrap-around, supportive services. Bex will always be a part of the RAM Cellars team and we consider them to be one of our “winemakers in absentia.”
Keagan joined our team in September of 2022 as our primary harvest intern and made a huge impact on our most bountiful harvest yet. They’re responsible for talking Viv into making our first Pet Nat in 2022 and were Viv’s right-hand person during a hectic, condensed harvest. They crafted a lovely Piquette as a side project during harvest 2022 and helped Viv from start to finish with the lovely 2022 wines. Keagan’s impact on the 2022 wines is evident in each finished wine as it’s released, and we’re so grateful for their hard work to help us craft incredible wines during the 2022 vintage. They moved on from the winery in January of 2023, moving back to Virginia with their partner and returning to their east coast roots, but they will always be a part of the RAM Cellars team and we consider them to be one of our “winemakers in absentia.”
